Which blackout(s) did you experience?
1965 (Great Northeast Blackout)

In your own words, tell the story of your experience in the blackout(s). Try to recall specific events and the people, places, and things involved; also include more general reactions, images adn last impressions?
On the early evening of 11/9/65, I was getting my schoolbag from the backroom in our kitchen to begin my homework. We (us 8 kids & my parents) lived in Queens. My father left for work, he was a New York City Fireman in a firehouse in Queens. My mother was taking a quick nap on the couch before getting dinner started for us kids. The lights in the kitchen were getting dimmer and dimmer, then went out. Luckily, one of my older teenage brothers had a transister radio and we all listed on the news about the blackout. Besides being worried about my father at work, I was also very disappointed that we were going to miss the television show "F-Troop".

Did either blackout seem significant or shocking at the time?
Neither was significant

Did the blackout(s) have any larger meaning in your mind?
No

Did the blackout(s) cause any profound crisis?
No

How did the blackout(s) affect your daily reliance on electricity?
Became less reliant
