Which blackout(s) did you experience?
1965 (Great Northeast Blackout)

In your own words, tell the story of your experience in the blackout(s). Try to recall specific events and the people, places, and things involved; also include more general reactions, images adn last impressions?
My dad & I were driving back to our home in Spfld., MA from a Crysler-Plymouth dealership in Enfield, CT. For miles, we saw absolutely no lights. (As a matter of fact, I believe that the lights shut off while we were leaving the dealership.)

When we crossed the MA state line, no difference--just darkness. We all ate a dinner of scrambled eggs 'n fried sausage, from our fireplace. We all went to bed; nada in terms of electricity until the next a.m.

Why did the blackouts happen, in your opinion?
Power grid problem originating from Niagara Falls.

I didn't see any funky U.F.O.'s; I think it was just man-made error, but obviously a HUGE one!

Did either blackout seem significant or shocking at the time?
Neither was significant

Why did you consider the blackout(s) to be significant or insignificant?
Because so many folks were affected.

How did the blackout(s) affect you?
Not much. We weren't stuck in an elevator, thank goodness!

Did the blackout(s) have any larger meaning in your mind?

Did the blackout(s) cause any profound crisis?

How did the blackout(s) affect your daily reliance on electricity?
Became less reliant
