AND THEN--FINALLY-THE CITY
LIGHTS CAME BACK ON
| LIGHTING-UP
TIME: This sequence of pictures, looking downtown fom Rockefeller
Center, shows how light and life slowly came back to the heart
of Manhattan. At left only one office building on Avenue of the
Americas blazed with light, as headlights created a pattern of
light-streaks. In center picture, more buildings had electricity
but the Empire State Building in center background was only a
dark silhouette. Fifteen minutes later the 102-story building
dominated the skyline with its television antenna topped with
a bank of aircraft-warning lights. |
