GRACEFUL LADY MAINTAINED
HER VIGIL OVER A DARKENED HARBOR
BEACON: As a photographer was shooting calendar pictures of lower
Manhattan at dusk, out went the lights--and left the Statue of
Liberty shining in lonely splendor.
OF LIGHT: Its decks outlined by strings of light powered by her
own generators, the Norwegian-American passenger liner Sagafjord
lay at her Hudson River mooring.
